Review: Hamadryad-Intrusion

Hamadryad is a progressive rock group from Montreal that released their third studio album, titled Intrusion, last year.

One decent song off this album is “Lost”. This 5 minute and some odd second is actually the shortest song on the album and features spoken word at one point rather than singing while all the music starts to slow down but keep on with the songs dark feel and theme.

“He Was Recalling Memories, But You Know  I Didn't Believe A Single Word Because, No Matter How Much Emphasis He Was Putting In It... Still Smelled Like Bull Sh*T (A.K.A. Liar)” is more than just a track with an oddly long title. It also features spoken word however, on this song it is easier to understand than on “Lost” and are funny, such as the phrase “a blonde who sucked on Mick Jagger’s toe”. As the overly long title implies it is about a person who says they know many famous people but really don’t.

Intrusion is not a horrible album. However at times some songs are longer than they need to be and even though that is typical of the prog rock genre, the music is not worthy of the long, solely instrumental periods of time they have given it. Of the nine songs featured on the album about two are worth hearing all the through to really enjoy. Other than that this album is just average.

3/5 Stars

Key Tracks- Lost, He Was Recalling Memories, But You Know  I Didn't Believe A Single Word Because, No Matter How Much Emphasis He Was Putting In It... Still Smelled Like Bull Sh*T (A.K.A. Liar), Pray To My God
